Music on the Waterfront returns to Montague Marina this Sunday, July 12, with a show by Joe Hynes from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Montague Gazebo, 1 Station Street. It is the first of several summer concerts organized by the Town of Three Rivers as part of the Three Rivers Festival Series.
The concert series brings live music to the Montague waterfront, a redeveloped park and marina that includes an outdoor stage, public washrooms, a visitor centre, playground, shops, and restaurants. The marinas along the Brudenell, Cardigan, and Montague rivers hold a Canadian Heritage Rivers designation from 2004.
Other performers scheduled later this summer include Norman Stewart and Maxine MacLennan, who play together in the groups Treble With Girls and The Irish Scots, featuring guitar, fiddle, bodhran, and mandolin. Award-winning country singer Lester MacPherson is also set to perform. MacPherson, known locally as “The Island’s Country Gentleman,” has played across the Maritimes for decades and won Male Artist of the Year and Country Male Artist of the Year from the PEI Music Awards.
Music on the Waterfront is one part of the broader Three Rivers Festival Series, which runs through the summer in Cardigan, Georgetown, and Montague. Upcoming events include Georgetown Summer Days from July 15 to 19 and an Arts and Culture Festival at the Montague Waterfront from July 29 to August 2. The summer lineup began with Canada Day celebrations in Cardigan on July 1.
