The Southern Kings and Queens Food Bank in Montague, Prince Edward Island, continues to manage a significant increase in demand for its services as it supports residents in the Three Rivers area. While local donation drives remain a vital part of its operations, food banks across the province have reported record numbers of people seeking assistance over the past two years.
Organizers have consistently thanked the local volunteers and community members who contribute to the bank’s success. These contributions support neighbours currently facing difficulties with the high cost of living, including rising prices for housing and daily necessities like groceries.
Food security remains a pressing issue in the region. Recent data from the Southern Kings and Queens Food Bank shows a sharp rise in usage, with hundreds of families relying on the facility each month. In early 2024, the bank reported serving 335 families, nearly double the amount from the previous year.
The center continues to accept donations from the public at its Montague facility to ensure it has enough supplies to meet the community’s growing needs.
