The Town of Three Rivers council has moved forward with three new community projects following their May 11, 2026 meeting. Supported by a current budget surplus of $668,424, the town has awarded contracts for new streetlights in Montague, engineering services for a sidewalk, and the professional design of a new mascot.
To improve lighting in the area, council awarded a contract to Hansen’s Electric. The Charlottetown-based firm will install 18 new street light fixtures along Main Street in Montague.
Council also selected Coles Associates Ltd. to provide engineering services for a new sidewalk project along John Beer Drive. This project is part of ongoing efforts to improve municipal infrastructure.
Additionally, the town is moving ahead with the creation of an official mascot named Rivv. The design contract was awarded to Maydwell Mascots Inc. The character is a river otter, chosen from over 15 resident submissions to celebrate the town’s connection to its rivers and the animal’s return to the region. Dorothy MacDonald, the town’s community services manager, noted that the mascot is intended to serve as a symbol for community identity. Residents can expect to see Rivv making public appearances starting this summer.
The town asks that residents remain mindful of potential construction activity as these projects begin to take shape.
