The Town of Wainwright has closed several trails and sidewalks near the new school construction site to make way for a new school driveway.
The Town of Wainwright posted the closure notice on July 15, 2026, asking residents to use alternate routes while the work continues. “Please use alternate trail and sidewalk routes, for your safety,” the notice states.
The construction is part of the Wainwright K-6 Elementary Replacement School project, which is being built by the Buffalo Trail Public Schools Regional Division No. 28. The new school will hold up to 495 students and is located on the east side of town near Rotary All-Seasons Park.
The school is expected to be finished in late 2026, and students will move in after the Christmas break in early 2027. Wainwright has over 15 km of multi-use trails that connect with sidewalks, so the closures affect a key part of the community’s walking network.
Residents are encouraged to check the Town’s website for updates and are reminded to follow posted detour signs until the work is done.
