Wainwright RCMP are asking residents for help after a hit-and-run crash at the corner of 2 Avenue and 11 Street on Monday evening. Police say a pickup truck struck another vehicle around July 20, 2026, and then left the scene. Investigators are now trying to find the driver.
The suspect vehicle is a darker-coloured Dodge Ram with a silver grill and a roof light. It has damage to the driver’s side headlight. Mounties are asking anyone who saw the crash or noticed a truck matching that description to come forward.
Officers also want people with home security cameras near the intersection to check their recordings. Police noted that residents may have captured useful footage without realizing it, and even a short clip could help identify the truck.
Anyone with information can call the Wainwright RCMP at 780-842-4463 during weekday business hours. Tips can also go to the 310-RCMP line after hours.
The Alberta RCMP runs a voluntary camera program called CAPTURE, where households can register their security systems. Officers can then check whether a camera was pointed near a crime scene and ask the owner for footage. Registration is free at ruralalbertacapture.ca.
Under Alberta law, leaving the scene of a crash can lead to serious penalties. Drivers convicted of failing to remain can face fines up to $2,300, seven demerit points, and as much as six months in jail under the Traffic Safety Act. The Criminal Code also allows for up to five years in prison.
