Wainwright, Alberta, is kicking off the week with a dose of summer warmth, but residents should enjoy it while it lasts. Environment Canada says Monday, June 15, will be mainly sunny with a high of 25°C, but clouds and showers are set to move in by Tuesday.
After such a bright start, things will take a turn overnight. Tuesday morning brings a 60 percent chance of showers, with periods of rain expected through the day. There is also a risk of a thunderstorm in the morning and afternoon. Local rainfall could total between 10 and 15 mm, and northwest winds will pick up, gusting to 60 km/h by early afternoon. The high will drop to 19°C.
Wednesday should bring a return to sunshine but with a cooler high of just 18°C. Thursday will stay cloudy with a 30 percent chance of showers and a high of 17°C. These cooler temperatures hover around the typical mid-June normal of 22°C for this time of year.
The weather station at CFB Wainwright is recording the current conditions for the town. As of Monday morning, Environment Canada has not issued any weather alerts for the area.
The shift toward more unsettled conditions lines up with The Weather Network’s summer outlook, which calls for near-normal precipitation in Alberta’s northeast this season. Environment Canada’s broader seasonal forecast also points to warmer-than-normal temperatures across most of the country, and a transition to El Niño conditions is expected later this summer.
