Residents in Arviat, Nunavut, are invited to the Community Hall tonight, March 11, 2026, to discuss plans for a new Inuit-led university. The engagement session begins at 7:00 PM and gives the public a chance to learn about the project and share their thoughts.
The Hamlet of Arviat is working with project organizers to prepare for the development. Arviat was recently chosen as the location for the main campus of the Inuit Nunangat University, which will be the first school of its kind to be operated by and for Inuit.
The federal government has pledged $50 million for the building, with another $50 million provided by the Mastercard Foundation. Additional funding is coming from Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. to support the project, which is led by Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami.
The university is expected to open in 2030 and will have room for 100 students and 80 staff members. Residents can use the meeting to ask questions about how the new campus will fit into the town and how it will impact local housing and services.
