The Town of Blackfalds is inviting local Grade 6 students to participate in municipal government by applying for the 2026 Mayor for a Day program. Submissions are open until Friday, May 15, 2026, offering students a chance to learn about community leadership.
To apply, students must submit a proposal that identifies a new business they would like to see in the community. The application must explain how the student would attract this business to Blackfalds and outline the resources, materials, and costs required to make the idea a reality. Entries can be submitted in several formats, including a letter, campaign ad, brochure, poster, short essay, or video.
The winning student will receive a unique, hands-on experience on June 20, 2026. This includes riding in the Blackfalds Days parade, attending the council pancake breakfast, and participating in a meet and greet pizza party with the town council before a council meeting. The chosen student will also have the opportunity to serve on the council.
The Mayor for a Day program is part of the broader commitment to youth engagement in Blackfalds, which also includes the Blackfalds Youth Crew. The initiative provides local youth with opportunities for leadership development and mentorship. For more information on how to participate in this year’s program, students can visit the Town of Blackfalds website.
