Environment Canada is calling for showers beginning Monday morning, July 20, 2026, with a risk of thunderstorms developing in the afternoon. Widespread smoke from wildfires is also expected to move into the area later in the day.
The official forecast calls for mainly cloudy skies, with a few showers starting in the morning. The chance of precipitation is 80 percent. Temperatures will reach a high of 21 degrees Celsius, but a Humidex of 26 will make it feel closer to 26. Winds will be from the northwest at 20 km/h, gusting to 40, becoming light this morning, then shifting to the north at 20 km/h gusting to 40 near noon.
As of 8:00 AM, no weather alerts or warnings were in effect for Blackfalds. However, the broader region has seen recent severe weather activity. On July 18, a tornado warning was issued for areas near Rocky Mountain House and Clearwater County, about 60 to 80 kilometres west of town.
In addition to the storm risk, wildfire smoke is drifting into Alberta from fires in northern Saskatchewan and the Northwest Territories. Environment Canada expects widespread smoke to settle over the Blackfalds area Monday afternoon and evening. Health experts warn that there is no safe level of exposure to wildfire smoke pollutants, which can cause headaches, coughing, eye irritation, and more serious health effects.
Looking ahead, Tuesday will bring a 30 percent chance of showers and another risk of thunderstorms, with a high of 22 degrees Celsius. Conditions are expected to improve midweek, with sunny skies and highs climbing to 28 degrees Celsius on Wednesday and 31 degrees Celsius on Thursday.
