The Bonnyville Gear Grabbers Race Weekend has been pushed from its usual July dates and will now take place August 21 to 23, 2026 at the Bonnyville Regional Airport in the Municipal District of Bonnyville, Alberta.
The annual event, run by the volunteer-based Bonnyville Gear Grabbers Car Club, moved from its original schedule earlier this month. The new dates give racers and spectators a late-summer weekend of drag racing and car culture.
The weekend kicks off Friday, August 21 with a meet and greet and mini Show & Shine from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Racer gates open at 3 p.m. that day, and overnight camping is available for competitors. Racing gets underway Saturday and Sunday with registration from 7 a.m. to 9:45 a.m., a driver’s meeting at 10 a.m., and time trials starting at 10:30 a.m.
Entry is $60 per racer each day. Public admission is $10, and children 12 and under get in free. The event has grown into the biggest airport drag race in Canada, regularly drawing more than 2,500 fans and over 100 racers from across Alberta and beyond.
Event organizer Shon Gamache said the non-profit club was founded in 2011 by a small group of car enthusiasts and started its first drag races at the airport in 2019. For updated registration and event details, the club asks everyone to check its website at geargrabbers.ca.
