Bonnyville residents can expect a stretch of summer-like weather this week, with Environment Canada forecasting unseasonably warm temperatures and mostly sunny skies through Wednesday.
Daytime highs are expected to reach 27 C on Monday and 23 C on Tuesday, up to about 13 degrees C above the seasonal normal of 14 C for late September. Overnight lows will remain mild, at 7 to 11 C, well above the typical low of 3 C.
“Normals: Max14C. Min3C. Today: Mainly sunny. Wind becoming south 20 km/h gusting to 40 this afternoon. High 27. Humidex 29,” states the Environment Canada forecast for Bonnyville. The UV index will be moderate at 3 to 4.
The warm spell offers a welcome break before autumn fully sets in. It also comes at a critical time for local farmers, who are significantly behind in harvest due to a wet summer. As of September 1, only 2.4 percent of major crops had been harvested in the North East region, while the provincial 10-year average stands at 17.3 percent, according to Alberta Seed Guide.
By Wednesday, temperatures cool to 18 C with a mix of sun and cloud, and showers are forecast Thursday night. Overall, the week provides ideal conditions for outdoor activities and yard work before cooler weather arrives.
