Residents in Arviat, Nunavut, are being told to prepare for a stretch of extreme cold and light snow starting on March 11, 2026. According to Environment Canada, wind chill values are expected to drop to -46 overnight, which means frostbite can happen on exposed skin in just a few minutes.
The weather forecast shows that clouds will move in on Wednesday night, bringing periods of light snow that will likely last into March 12, 2026. While the community is used to harsh Arctic weather, the combination of new snow and deep freezing temperatures will make outdoor activities more difficult over the next few days.
Even though the wind chill is reaching dangerous levels, there are currently no formal weather alerts or warnings in place for the community. Residents are encouraged to be careful if they have to go outside and should make sure they are wearing proper winter clothing to stay safe from the freezing conditions.
