While the heavy snow and blowing winds have subsided, officials are reminding residents that extreme cold remains a serious concern for the area.
The weather forecast for today shows mainly sunny skies with a high temperature of -30°C. Winds are expected to come from the northwest at about 20 kilometres per hour, which is a significant improvement from the recent blizzard conditions.
Despite the sunny weather, the region is still facing dangerously low temperatures. Wind chill values reached -53°C this morning and are expected to stay around -43°C throughout the afternoon.
Authorities warn that these extreme temperatures can cause frostbite on exposed skin in only a few minutes. Residents should continue to take precautions when going outside and monitor local weather updates even though the blizzard has passed.
