Arviat, Nunavut, will see mild weather this week, starting with a risk of a thunderstorm on Monday before skies clear for a stretch of sunny days, according to Environment Canada.
Monday’s forecast calls for cloudy conditions with a 60 percent chance of showers and a risk of a thunderstorm. The high will reach 19 C, and wind will become northwest at 20 km/h late this afternoon. The chance of showers drops to 30 percent early this evening, but there’s still a risk of a thunderstorm.
As of 1:00 p.m. CDT, the temperature at Arviat Airport sat at 15.6 C, with humidity at 89 percent and visibility at 24 kilometres.
Things will improve Tuesday, which is expected to be mainly sunny with a high of 19 C. Wednesday will be sunny and even warmer, hitting 21 C. Thursday will bring a mix of sun and cloud with a high of 17 C, and Friday will be sunny again with another 21 C day.
The UV index will be moderate, ranging from 3 to 5 through the week. Tuesday is forecast to have the highest UV reading at 5.
These temperatures are notably above the July normals for Arviat, which typically see highs of 17 C and lows of 7 C. The mild conditions come as residents enjoy nearly 18.5 hours of daylight, with sunrise at 4:05 a.m. and sunset at 10:38 p.m.
