Residents of Beausejour and the surrounding area are being told to brace for severe weather as Environment Canada has issued a Yellow Watch for severe thunderstorms. The watch covers Beausejour and Garson within the Rural Municipality of Brokenhead, and it took effect at 10:56 a.m. on Monday, July 6, 2026.
Forecasters say the storm could bring large hail between two and four centimetres wide, about the size of a ping-pong ball, along with wind gusts reaching 100 km/h. Heavy downpours are also likely, with the potential to cause flash flooding in some spots.
Thunderstorms are expected to develop this afternoon and carry on into the evening before tapering off overnight. A tornado watch is also in effect for parts of southeastern Manitoba, with the greatest risk of rotating storms near the Ontario border.
The Weather Network warns that the combination of warm, humid air and upper-level winds is creating an unstable atmosphere across the region. Officials are urging everyone to secure outdoor items, keep an eye on updated forecasts, and take cover immediately if thunderstorms move in.
The region is still recovering from a severe storm in July 2023 that tore roofs off buildings in Beausejour, snapped trees and power poles, and destroyed sheds and trailers. At the time, Beausejour Mayor Ray Schirle described the damage as unprecedented in his five-year tenure.
Once the storms clear out, conditions are expected to improve quickly. By mid-week, skies will turn sunny, and temperatures could climb to 32°C by Saturday, July 11.
