The Red Deer Kinsmen Club is bringing its annual slo-pitch and cornhole tournament to Blackfalds starting Friday, giving central Alberta residents a chance to watch competitive ball, enjoy live music, and support a local youth organization.
The three-day event runs June 5-7 at Sterling Industries Sports Park. The park, located at 4800 Leung Road on the southwest edge of town, features four fenced ball diamonds and will host slo-pitch teams from across the region.
Registration cost $400 per slo-pitch team before May 18, and teams can still register for $500. The cornhole tournament is $20 per person. All proceeds go to Youth HQ, a group that supports young people in central Alberta.
The weekend includes more than just ball. A beer garden, concession, and on-site camping are available for visitors. The live band Arcane 5 takes the stage Saturday evening, and players can step up for a home run derby and pitching contest. Cash and raffle prizes are also up for grabs.
The Kinsmen Club has been raising money for local causes in Red Deer since 1937. Over the last ten years, the club has donated more than $500,000 to groups like Youth HQ, Camp Alexo, and the Red Deer Hospital. Last year’s Kinsmen Canada Slo-Pitch Jamboree was also held at the same Blackfalds sports park.
