Claresholm is looking for a new town councillor after Craig Zimmer officially stepped down on June 30, 2026. The town has set Monday, October 19, 2026 for a by-election to fill the seat, giving residents a chance to join the seven-member council currently down to six.

Zimmer, who was first elected in 2021 and re-elected last October with 565 votes, described serving on council as “one of the greatest honours of his life” and said he was “proud to represent the residents of Claresholm,” according to Mayor Brad Schlossberger, who thanked Zimmer for his service.
Town council met on July 20 to discuss the by-election process. Until the by-election, Mayor Schlossberger will continue working alongside councillors Rod Kettles, David Knox, Kieth Carlson, Kandice Meister, and Seth Wagner.
This comes just nine months after the October 2025 municipal election, meaning residents will head back to the polls to decide who fills the empty seat for the remainder of the four-year term.
