Stonewall’s Canada Day celebration is moving to a new spot this year after heavy flooding damaged the usual venue. The Town of Stonewall announced that the July 1, 2026 festivities will now be held at the Veterans Memorial Sports Complex at 550 Main Street.
For years, residents have gathered at Stonewall Quarry Park for the holiday. But after a severe storm on June 9 dropped about 255 mm of rain in just seven hours, the park’s entrance was badly damaged. The town closed both the entrance and the park to keep everyone safe.
The town council declared a State of Local Emergency on June 11, 2026, and it stays in place until July 10. The sports complex was picked as the new location because it has indoor facilities that can handle a community party despite the ongoing cleanup.
Residents will also see changes to garbage pickup for Canada Day week. The town posted a notice about adjusted collection services on its website alongside the venue change. Both notices went up on June 25, so people have time to plan.
Details on the exact event schedule at the sports complex have not been shared yet. In past years, the celebration ran from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. with entertainment and fireworks at Quarry Park. The town is expected to give more info soon as it works to keep the tradition alive in a different spot.
