Stonewall residents looking to build water rescue skills and open doors to aquatic jobs can register now for Bronze Medallion and Bronze Cross certification courses at Kinsmen Lake this month. The Town of Stonewall posted details on its local notices page on July 7, 2026, confirming the nationally recognized training will run in July at the quarry-turned-swimming spot.
Bronze Medallion runs July 13 to 15 from 12:00 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. and costs $210. Bronze Cross runs July 27 to 31, with Monday to Thursday classes from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and an extended Friday session from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., at a cost of $230. Both courses take place at Kinsmen Lake in Stonewall Quarry Park.
Registration is open through the Univerus recreation system. For more information, residents can call (204) 513-0151 or (204) 467-7980, or email [email protected].
Bronze Medallion challenges candidates in judgment, knowledge, skill, and fitness — the four key parts of water rescue. Participants must be at least 13 years old or hold a Bronze Star certification. Bronze Cross builds on that training, shifting the focus from lifesaving to lifeguarding and preparing swimmers for assistant lifeguard roles.
Both certifications are prerequisites for National Lifeguard and Lifesaving Instructor certifications, which can lead to employment at pools and waterfronts across Manitoba. The courses follow Lifesaving Society Manitoba standards, the same organization that trains lifeguards province-wide.
Kinsmen Lake, a man-made lake developed from a former limestone quarry, opened for the 2026 season on July 5. Hosting the courses locally means Stonewall-area teens and adults can earn these advanced qualifications without having to travel to Winnipeg or other communities.
