The Government of Prince Edward Island joined communities across the province to recognize the start of a month-long celebration of French language and Acadian culture on March 2, 2026. Known as les Rendez-vous de la Francophonie, the festival invites residents to take part in local activities under the theme “Activate your Francophonie!”
In the Summerside region, celebrations are centered at the Centre Belle-Alliance and École Sur-Mer. These locations serve as the primary gathering spots for the French-speaking community in Prince County. Provincial support is being provided to help local groups and schools host events that highlight the vibrancy of the French language and heritage.
The schedule for the month focuses on community engagement and active participation in francophone culture. Gilles Arsenault, the Minister responsible for Acadian and Francophone Affairs, said the celebrations are an opportunity for everyone to experience what makes the Island community distinct and unique.
The Fédération culturelle de l’Île-du-Prince-Édouard is the primary group coordinating the provincial activities. Residents are encouraged to attend various workshops and community events to learn more about the local Acadian heritage throughout March.
